Defined Contribution Forum

Defined Contribution ForumApril 11-13, 2011

Defined Contribution plan sponsors continue to face perennial challenges in designing their plans, communicating with their beneficiaries to ensure optimal participation, complying with rules and implementing policies to meet their fiduciary responsibilities, keeping up with regulatory proposals and changes and dealing with various administrative issues. How will they meet these challenges given their limited resources and the extent of the demands put upon them? How can they more effectively serve their participants in order to help provide them with secure retirement income?

The Evolving Fiduciary Obligations of Pension Plans

The Evolving Fiduciary Obligations of Pension PlansFebruary 1, 2011
The Dupont Hotel
Washington, D.C.

The government’s new Financial Regulatory legislation will provide new powers to plan sponsors who have long sought a larger voice on issues of corporate governance. These expanded rights will be defined as regulators establish the rules to support the legislation. This has occurred after years during which plan sponsors have become increasingly engaged on issues related to corporate governance and their own fiduciary responsibilities in enforcing their rights on behalf of their participants. How will the new regulatory scheme help plan sponsors? How can they influence regulators to produce rules that will accommodate their needs? How can they improve upon their ability to communicate and negotiate with corporate managements more effectively? Finally, how they determine the appropriate recourse when seeking compensation from corporations that have engaged in practices damaging to their investors?

If you are interested in being considered for an invitation please contact Ann Cornish, Audience Director, at +1 (212) 224-3877 or at email acornish@iiconferences.com.

With a yawning funding gap, pension plans increasingly are being pressured to exit the retirement saving business. All roads appear to lead to a migration from DBs to DCs or do they? Returns for defined benefit plans outperformed those for defined contribution plans by about 100 basis points in 2007 and 2008 according to an analysis by Towers Watson. What do plan sponsors need to do in terms of plan design and investment policies to ensure a strong retirement future for employees?

Corporate and public plan sponsors who are interested in attending as our invited guests should contact Tomas Djurstrom at telephone (212) 224-3727 or via email at tdjurstrom@iiconferences.com.
