Defined Contribution plan sponsors continue to face perennial challenges in designing their plans, communicating with their beneficiaries to ensure optimal participation, complying with rules and implementing policies to meet their fiduciary responsibilities, keeping up with regulatory proposals and changes and dealing with various administrative issues. How will they meet these challenges given their limited resources and the extent of the demands put upon them? How can they more effectively serve their participants in order to help provide them with secure retirement income?

February 8-9, 2011
Union League Club
New York City

You may also visit us at the Global Real Assets Investment Forum minisite for furter updates.

Institutional Investor’s 2nd Annual Global Real Assets Investment Forum will thoroughly explore both the trends and expectations underlying real asset prices and the increasing interest major institutions have in them. We will review what can be discerned from the basic understanding of fundamental supply and demand data as well as what can be comfortably implied from economic and business cycles as well as cyclical and secular trends.

From this general understanding we will carefully look at specific sectors, markets, strategies and approaches to both investing in real assets and developing a comprehensive program for including them in institutional portfolios. Through a series of panel sessions and presentations that will include experts, managers, analysts, experienced investors and consultants, the Forum will help institutional investors determine not only how they can invest in various real asset categories but also how they may discern what is the best way for them to invest based on a better understanding of the major strategic and tactical opportunities that exist alongside the associated risks that must be considered and properly managed to achieve the results they seek.

To inquire about attending the Global Real Assets Investment Forum — there is no registration fee for those who are invited to attend, although delegates are responsible for their own travel and accommodations — please contact: Viena Margulies at (212) 224-3971 or vmargulies@iiconferences.com.

Washington, D.C.

The government’s new Financial Regulatory legislation will provide new powers to plan sponsors who have long sought a larger voice on issues of corporate governance. These expanded rights will be defined as regulators establish the rules to support the legislation. This has occurred after years during which plan sponsors have become increasingly engaged on issues related to corporate governance and their own fiduciary responsibilities in enforcing their rights on behalf of their participants. How will the new regulatory scheme help plan sponsors? How can they influence regulators to produce rules that will accommodate their needs? How can they improve upon their ability to communicate and negotiate with corporate managements more effectively? Finally, how they determine the appropriate recourse when seeking compensation from corporations that have engaged in practices damaging to their investors?

If you are interested in being considered for an invitation please contact Ann Cornish, Audience Director, at +1 (212) 224-3877 or at email acornish@iiconferences.com.

With a yawning funding gap, pension plans increasingly are being pressured to exit the retirement saving business. All roads appear to lead to a migration from DBs to DCs or do they? Returns for defined benefit plans outperformed those for defined contribution plans by about 100 basis points in 2007 and 2008 according to an analysis by Towers Watson. What do plan sponsors need to do in terms of plan design and investment policies to ensure a strong retirement future for employees?

The Four Seasons
Chicago

While the consensus is that the U.S. is coming out of its recession, there is no agreement on the nature of the recovery. As a result some consultants and investors are placing a greater emphasis on risk management versus investment performance. Many have substituted “macro buckets” for the more traditional asset style orientation or they have instituted more flexibility in investment policies. What is the best response to the rapidly changing investment landscape? How should consultants structure their organizations to respond? These issues and others will be explored at this year’s Roundtable for Consultants & Investors, to be held October 6-8, 2010 at The Four Seasons in Chicago.

September 26-28, 2010

The world has quickly come to accept that economic growth, and the power and influence that comes with it, is shifting toward emerging and developing nations, China foremost among them. As a result of this shift, the developed world will likely need to go through a period of realignment to better balance their economies in order to support their domestic markets and populations. The severe global economic decline has enforced this view as well as clarified the extent to which it is occurring, while perhaps accelerating the pace of this development.

At the same time, the huge economic meltdown we have been through, along with the exacerbated fiscal problems it has brought to the developed world have created what are probably unique investment opportunities that families would be remiss to ignore. In addition, of course, the global nature of business enterprises today means that many domestic companies that operate internationally will profit from the evolutionary changes that will take place over years, if not decades.

In conjunction with all the pressing investment considerations families have to ponder, they must also contend with uncertainty about tax rates, regulations, government intervention in the markets, whether we are entering an inflationary or deflationary cycle, how we will ultimately deal with our massive deficits and debt—and what it all means for interest rates and the dollar—the unstable geopolitical environment, and a variety of other issues that don’t lend themselves to easy analysis or understanding.

The 11th Annual Institutional Investor/Lido Consulting Family Office Wealth Conference will examine these and other essential issues families must contemplate as they navigate in a world that at this moment presents more questions than answers then at any time in recent memory. In the process we will evaluate an assortment of investment options to unearth where the best opportunities may exist and where the greatest risks may be lurking. We will also determine what other affluent families are doing or considering when it comes to investing in various strategies, regions, sectors and asset classes.

With the involvement of numerous experts, experienced family office executives, family members and others, the 11th Annual Institutional Investor/Lido Consulting Family Office Wealth Conference will provide a unique chance for families to discuss essential issues, share ideas and information, and informally review a diversity of options that will help them make informed decisions underpinned by their individual standards, values, objections and family circumstances.
